Consulting

So, have you ever ended involved in something you never thought you'd be involved in? (No not porn or bank robbery.) I've always known I'd be a photographer...that really wasn't a surprise to me or my family. It would have been more of a shock if I hadn't followed photography honestly. However, by some twist of fate I've taken on the roll of restaurant consultant...out of left field, right?

Mario and I have taken on a project. I knew we'd be helping out, but I never imagined how involved we'd really become. There is a local diner that we love. Best Eggs Benedict in town. I've spent many days sitting in that diner working away. Coincidentally, spending so much time there, I got to hear a lot of the behind the scenes information...we've found out our little diner has definitely taken a hit from the economy and mismanagement.

What started out as a simple project has become a full blown revamp. Mario's culinary classes and my design and photography are being used to hopefully fix a bunch of problems with this restaurant. It's definitely an interesting project and I'm excited to see how this all turns out. We are doing a full menu reorganization and redesign, we're coming up with new recipes, helping organize events, special menus, implementing marketing and new photography of course.

There's a lot of stuff going on that I love. Design, analyzing sales and cross use of ingredients...this totally gets my OCD firing for sure. Um, and can I say the sales reports for the restaurant are totally fascinating? That's how much I'm geeking out here. I know how many of my eggs benedicts that they sell in a month...somewhere in the 300s for last month. I know! Interesting right! ok maybe not all of you think it's interesting.

I'm definitely learning a lot. I have learned more about the psychology of menus than I could have ever wanted to know. The use of dollar signs, pricing tips, how to organize your plates...it's a whole process I never knew about. It's interesting for sure. Who knows maybe menu design is in my future.

The entire project is great for my portfolio...assuming we do get this place turned around. Anyway, if you're in the area, go get eggs benedict from Theresa's Family Restaurant! I'll have to put the befores and afters on here soon.
